Welcome to the big SCP 20k Giveaway! It’s hard to believe that just four years ago, I was nervously awaiting the package of my first “real” camera – a Canon 50d – and signing up to create my first website. For the first many, many months, I carried that camera on one hip almost as much as I had Jacob, our first little one, on the other. I practiced and learned and failed, practiced and failed some more, stayed up into the early hours of the morning learning photoshop and practicing some more. I transformed our formal dining room in our old house into my “studio”….playing around with the way the light fell into the room, the effects of white sheers and large reflectors. I got more use out of my first three posing backdrops than I did with any other blanket I have ever purchased. I was encouraged by my husband, my family, my friends. I was discouraged by my ability to not perfect the image every time. But I had the itch. And I kept going… I formed pricing lists, photographed Jacob all over the house and outdoors on every different possible setting and started slowly fine-tuning my style. I charged $5 for a 4×6 print. I purchased a real posing bag for my newborn sessions and knew, without a doubt, that newborn sessions were my true passion. I remember the excitement I felt when I hit my first 1,000 fans on facebook. As the months passed, not only did I fall in love with the art of newborn photography, but I so loved getting to know the families whose lives I was able to document… not just the perfect and tiny toes and fingers, but that amazing bond between new parents and their new little one. It’s hard to believe that almost exactly four years after my website first launched, I arrived at 20,000 fans. And while we shouldn’t measure our successes by these numbers, I can tell you that I am just as excited today as when I received that first thousand. Thank you all for staying by my side, for joining in along the way and for supporting SCP. It truly means more to me than you know…
